Lumber Calculators
Lumber is bought by the board foot, priced by the piece, and cut from a list — three different kinds of math for the same pile of wood. These calculators convert single boards to board feet and turn a project cut list into a full takeoff with waste. Bring the takeoff to the lumber yard and you will buy what you need, not what you guess.

A board foot is 144 cubic inches of wood: thickness (inches) × width (inches) × length (feet), divided by 12. A 2×6 that is 8 feet long equals 8 board feet. Hardwood is commonly priced per board foot.
Ten to fifteen percent extra is the usual rule of thumb, covering miscuts, defects, and boards that twist after delivery. The lumber takeoff calculator includes an adjustable waste factor so you can match it to your skill level and the project's complexity.
